Park area between Maryino and Kapotnya districts is presently in a state of disregard. Nearby residents perceive the area as a full-fledged recreational park, despite it being adjacent to an industrial estate. We have devised a land development strategy focused on active leisure.

Objective:

To revitalize a semi-abandoned park while minding utility networks that adhere to the nearby industrial estate.

Solution:

Landscaping the area; creating sporting and leisure infrastructure, separating the natural and the industrial.

The area in question closely adjoins industrial waste disposal pits and an oil refinery. It also accommodates a heat network, an oil pipeline and a high-tension power line. Nevertheless, nearby residents perceive the park as an easily accessible piece of nature perfect for biking, jogging, walking the dogs and relaxing at the river bank. We want to reinvent the area creating a safe modern park for sporting activities that would become a citywide attraction.

The first two stages of development cover 44 ha out of 107 ha and include implementation of all the necessary infrastructure: illumination for pedestrian paths, directional signage, skate park, sporting gear rentals, cafes, WiFi hotspots, yoga and dancing facilities, playgrounds, nurseries and children’s center, parking lots, changing rooms and racing tracks for R/C cars.

Landscape garden stretches alongside the power line: coordinated stripes of perennials, dwarf shurbs and various types of grass. Tall trees are planted at the border with oil refinery. Marshes and river shallows harbour waterfoul food plants. Wooden promenade with a chain of beacons is installed at the river bank. The beacons work both as a decorative and as a functional element of the landscape providing vending services, information and WiFi. The promenade is also fully suitable for holding fishing tournaments.

The third stage of works covers 61 ha. Due to the extensive presence of utility networks in the area, only 8 ha are not restricted for fundamental development. In accordance with international sporting standards we’ve designed there a multi-function trail with snow cannons, a shooting range and a pump track. Pergolas are installed under the power line to shield the skiers. We have also established various illumination scenarios for the transmission poles.

The park is perfect for all-season use. There is a gym with multiple saunas, and during winter you can rent ski at a bike rental, utilize jogging paths for skiing or use the main plaza bridge pavilion turned ice slide.

Park entrances are located at the most convenient spots minding the current human traffic and footpath network.
